Our Story

Hayden Outdoors, LLC is a family-owned and operated real estate brokerage that John Leo Hayden opened in 1976. With over 200 brokers and agents across 32 states and growing, Hayden Outdoors is recognized as one of the largest land brokerages in the country. Hayden Outdoors has also been named as one of the “Best Brokerages” every year since 2011 by The Land Report Magazine and recently by the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies.

The team is composed of brokers and agents with experience and knowledge in their markets and an affinity to “Do what they say they will”. Hayden Outdoors is about honesty and integrity with customers and a rich sense of land stewardship. Our agents know land because they are what the land has made them. We understand land, water, minerals and what is necessary to maximize value for our clients.

Hayden Outdoors is built on the relationships between our clients and our brokers, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the farm, ranch and recreational real estate market. Our brokers are passionate about the outdoors and are proud to work and play in the outdoor setting we all love so much. Our buyers and sellers know that the fine properties we represent are the kind of properties we would call our very own.

Because of these traits we have been successful since 1976 and have continued to be named one of America’s Best Land Brokerages. Whether it’s claiming that prized elk in Colorado, the smell of fresh cut hay in Kansas, hearing the rise of that rooster pheasant in Nebraska, or relaxing by a pristine mountain stream in Wyoming, this real estate is special! Outdoor recreation is deep in our hearts and minds, and it is what drives all of us at Hayden Outdoors. We are truly blessed to work with the sellers and buyers of the fine ranches, land, and farm properties that we have the opportunity to sell, because it is the people that make those places special.

2024

Hayden Outdoors wins multiple awards at RLI Apex Awards

For the 2nd year in a row Dax Hayden is recognized as the Ranch Broker of the Year by RLI Apex awards and Austin Callison wins Regional Ranch broker of the year and Regional Residential Land Broker of the Year. John Herrity along with Hayden and Callison also recognized as APEX Producers Club winners.

In Loving Memory

The Hayden Outdoors family loses its founder and visionary John Leo Hayden, but the team pushes forward with positive growth and motivation to keep Leo's vision alive.

2023

Cimarron Valley Ranch Sells, over 45,000 acres trades hands.

Dax Hayden orchestrates a massive sale of ranch and farm land that covers two states and includes 20+ miles of Cimarron River and the Santa Fe Trail.

2022

Dax Hayden receives 2nd Ranch Broker of the Year Award

For the 2nd time Dax Hayden receives the coveted Ranch Broker of the Year award, issued by Realtors Land Institute at the National Land Conference

2021

Hayden Outdoors Surpasses $1.35 Billion in annual real estate sales.

With expansion into multiple states and growth of agents to over 200, sales soar to record highs with 180% increase in YOY sales, eclipsing $1.35 Billion dollars in land sales, with over 1,600 transactions.

2020

National Expansion from Coast to Coast

Demand from buyers across the country allows for the leadership to open the doors in the Southeast and the West Coast, including Alaska.

2019

Hayden Outdoors receives first Inc 5000 Recipient Award

Tremendous growth pushes the brand to qualify as one of America’s fastest growing brands among all industries.

2018

Dax Hayden Recognized as top National Commercial Award Winner

Now with over 100 agents in the company and licensed in 10 states, Dax is recognized as one of America’s top real estate brokers..

Hayden Grand Opening in Windsor, CO

Expansion into a prime location on Main St. offers more space for marketing, film and sales team and better location for traffic.

2017

Dax Hayden Awarded "Ranch Broker Of The Year"

Dax Hayden recognized as one of America’s top real estate brokers by winning the RLI Apex Awards. Hayden Outdoors has over 100 agents and licensed in 10 states.

2016

Hayden Outdoors celebrates 40 years

Hayden Outdoors celebrates 40 years of specializing in rural real estate.

2013

Auction of Historic Clover Cliff Ranch in Flint Hills of Kansas

With a team of internal marketing and auction professionals, Hayden Outdoors land massive historic Auction and sells without flaw and over 300 people present.

2011

Sale of historic 21,000 acre Dunne Valley Ranch in Kansas

The second major sale for the Hayden team pushes their recognition among large landowners that they know land and know real estate enough to sell big ranches.

2008

Sale of famous Box Ranch and Dog Creek Ranch in Kansas

Some of our first significant sales in North America helps to launch more marketing and advertising.

2006

Hayden Inc. changes to Hayden Outdoors with emphasis on farm, ranch and recreational properties

Naming the company by following their passion for the great outdoors expands their market to include hunting and fishing properties.

2004

Hayden Outdoors opens first Colorado Office at Water Valley

New offices expand the brand and begin to bring on growth in the mountain states, and Dax and Seth base out of Windsor.

2003

Joined Cabela's Trophy Properties membership

“Three Guys in a Truck” drive across Kansas to meet with Cabela’s ownership in Sydney , NE and sign on as members of their new real estate marketing division.

2001

Dax Hayden joins Hayden Inc.

Joining the family business, Dax uses his banking and insurance background to launch his career in real estate sales.

1999

Seth Hayden joins newly named Hayden Inc.

After graduating from Kansas State University and a brief stint in Lending, Seth joins his father’s company to sell real estate.

1980

Moved office to Goodland, KS and opened up at 1401 Main St.

Leo and Judy move back to Goodland to raise their children and set up offices, where we still have an office to this day.

1979

Leo sells 5 million acre Australia Ranch

Answering an ad in a local paper to help a ranch sell, Leo negotiates multiple deals to sell a ranch “Down Under”.

1976

Leo Hayden starts "Property Exchange"

Leo specialized in working with farms and ranches for sale in and around Hays, Kansas.

1975

Family experiences Cattle die off from snowstorm in Kansas

The Hayden cattle herd of over 500 are almost all wiped out from a massive snow storm in Western Kansas near Goodland. Leo needed to find work but wanted to get out of ranching, so he decided to work for a family member "Grandpa Marcotte" selling real estate.
